About felted bags

Fri 29th May 2009

I thought that a few generalisations about felted bags would be a good idea because I seem to be repeating some basic facts in my descriptions  After conversations with people at sale venues, it seems that many think that the bags may be impractical and perhaps a bit fragile. In fact the opposite is true ,a felted fabric is very durable and hardwearing. Felt has been made for thousands of years so has stood the test of time. It makes a very tactile bag which is very strong and yet light. It can also be laundered as you would a favourite sweater, .by hand in cool water with a detergent suitable for wool. It can be re-shaped while still damp and I usually put a rolled up hand towel inside and stand it on a radiator till dry.If there is any pilling it can easily be removed with a bit of sellotape.....and there you have it ...a long lasting natural fabric bag...that has to be good!

Brghton Open Houses

Thu 28th May 2009

I exhibited my bags and slippers at the recent Open House Trail in Brighton. Artists open their houses for four weekends during may to coincide with Brighton Festival. It is a fun thing to do and I met some wonderful and talented people. I shall be beavering away over the next few weeks getting ready for a similar event in nearby Hastings called 'Hastings Hot Houses' ......I shall be working on some tropical designs....Bright and Colourful...is the theme....I have acquired some hot pink wool and a bright yellow wool dye for inspiration, as I can't afford the tropical holiday.
